Diarrhoea and Cholera

In our Biology class we have studied our last topic of “Digestive System” that is diarrhoea and cholera. After watching a video about this topic we had to answer the following questions. I work with Juan Lutowicz.

1) Name signs/symptoms caused by cholera.

Diarrhoea, vomiting, weaknessies and getting dehydrated are the signs.

Feeling sick is the symptom.

2) State ways in which the bacterium spreads in the village.

The first way of how the bacterium spreads in the village is by the spreading of the river, through flies that transport the bacteria, throught dirty hands and throught food not washed.

3) What is diarrhoea?

Diarrhoea is when faeces are discharged from the body, usally in liquid form.

4) How does the cholera bacterium cause diarrhoea?

It produces a toxin that attaches to the wall of the small intestine and affects the villi and makes it secrete chloride. Which causes water from the blood to move into the lumen by the process of osmosis.

5) How did the boy treat his father?

The boy treated his father by filtrating and boiling water at 100ºC to kill the bacteria. Then he gave his father the pure water with half of a teaspoon of salt and 6 of sugar that contained all the minerals that he needed.

6) Name the different actions which the boy taught to the people in the village to prevent the disease.

The ways to prevent the diseaseare:

  1. Washing your hands before eating and cooking;
  2. By filtrating water;
  3. By boiling water to kill the bacteria; and
  4. By building toilets of at least 20 meters far of the river.

Queen’s Pawn – Booktube

As the second term has started we were assigned by our Language teacher a new book for the Lending Library. This time my book is “Queen’s Pawn” written by Victor Canning. Here is a video that I have made talking about the book.

Mi Presentación – Collage Computación

En nuestra clase de Computación nos pidieron que nos presentemos cada uno haciendo un Collage de fotos con cosas que nos representen.

Human Nutrition

In our Biology clas we have been studying “Human Nutrition”. In this new topic we have learnt what is diet, a balance diet and what defficency disease you have if you don’t have balance diet. Here is a presentation about human nutrition.

In groups we have made a Document with the different types of defficency diseases.

In our Biology class we have studied the different types of enzymes, their parts and how they are afeeced by the level of pH and temperature. Here is a presentation about enzymes.

Datas Comemorativas do Brasil

Berlin Blockade

In our History class we have started seen a new topic that is “The Berlin Blockade”. We have to complete a chart with differents aspects of it and the answer some questions. Here is the task,

This is the chart:

History Chart Berlin Blockade

1. What was life like in Berlin in the post-war era?

Life in Berlin was very harsh after it was divided into four zones. They didn’t know how world was in the others sides and they wanted to recover things that were destroyed during the war.

2. How did Soviet policy towards Berlin differ from that of the West?

The East of Berlin was very communist, there cannot be any publicity and buildings and cars were the same.

3. Why was reform of the German currency a key issue for both sides?

A new brand was introduced. Stalin though this as a form of attempt to the East Germany econonomy. Then Russians had stopped the traffic into Berlin.

4. Why was the airlift such a major feat?

Because around 600 flights delivered more than 50000 tons of resources even if the weather was bad.

5. In what respect can the USSR and US be responsible for further increasing tensions during the airlift?

In the way that USSR and the USA could be responsible was if the Russians confused the airlifts as if they were going to bombard them, This was confusing and brought tension between the two countries.

6. Why did Stalin eventually agree to talks over the airlift?

Stalin had opened the routes into Berlin and he was in total agree to solve problems fighting with the countries that opposed his opinions.

 Extension question

Who was more to blame for Berlin becoming a major flashpoint in the Cold War, the Soviets or the Americans?

In my opinion both had the blame for Berlin becoming a major flashpopint in the Cold War. Soviets had closed the routes into Berlin. This made it difficult to control the four zones in which Berlin was divided. The Americans sent airlifts that could be confused by the Russians as an intention of bombarding the zones, so it was very dangerous.

Language Online Test

Our teacher of Language told us to make an online test. In the class we are reading “Face” a book written by Benjamin Zephaniah. THis test is based on him.

Task 1.

Choose a poem by Benjamin Zephaniah and prepare an analysis. Write a paragraph explaining why you have chosen it. Focus on the message of the poem and analyse at least two literary devices present in the poem. Then, find a picture to illustrate the ideas present in the poem and post it on your blog as well. If you are good at drawing you can also make a drawing of the poem yourself. Take a picture of it and upload it too.

I have chosen the poem Who’s Who” because although it’s short, its message proves how appearences are deceiving most of the times. The message it conveys deals with stereotypes and how mistaken they can be. In the end, despite thinking that poets were boring, he ends up being one of them. Therefore, implying that he is not boring, that he is not like everybody thinks.

The first literary device that I find is anaphora (Repetition of the same structure). E.g. “I used to, I used to, I used to”.

The second literary device that I find is alliteration (Repetiton of the same sound). E.g. “Who’s Who and Were women”.

Language Test

Task 2.

Choose one of the following tasks and write about it.

2. Write an interview  to Benjamin Zephniah as if you were a reporter. Include at least one form of emphasis and highlight it. ( between 10-12 exchanges)

Me: Hello Benjamin! When and where were you born?

Benjamin: Hi! I was born on 15th  April 1958 in Birmingham, England.

Me: Can you tell me on what your poems are influenced?

Benjamin: Well, my poems are very much influenced on the music and the poetry of Jamaica.

Me: What everybody loves about you is the way you write your poems! How do you make your poems so interesting?

Benjamin: What a very good question. In my poems I include feelings that characterise me when I was a kid.

Me: Wow! That’s great. Also being a black poet must have been a challenge for you. How do you manage with that?

Benjamin: Yes! I always try to convince people that the colour of your skin doesn’t matter, whatever do you, including writing poems.

Me: But what idea came to your mind about the blacks?

Benjamin: In my case I lived many years in Handsworth where the suffer of Black people to Black people is very high.

Me: When was your first book published?

Benjamin: My first book was published when I was 22 in London by Page One Books  and its name was “Pen Rhythm”.

Me: Were you the first to record in the group “Wailers”?

Benjamin: Yes, I was the first one to record in that group after the death of Bob Marley. “The Wailers” and me had recorded “Free South Africa”  at Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio in Jamaica.

Me: Did you write any book for children?

Benjamin: Yes. First I didn’t appreciate writing books for children, but then I thought that it was just poetry, not children’s or adult’s poetry. Then I publish the book that was called “Talking Turkeys”.

Me: And what about bullies, drugs, racism, war and being a vegan?

Benjamin: I have written many stories about racism, people that are bullies and drugs, like “Face” in 1999. Because I am a passionate vegan I wrote stories about animals.

Me: The last question. Do you think you change people’s mind with your writings?

Benjamin: Yes, I think that my writings could have changed people’s mind because what I express on them is how reality is.

Me: Thanks for the time! I have learnt many things that I didn’t know before about you. Hope to see you again soon. Bye.

Benjamin: It is great that you have learnt more things about me. It was a good interview. Bye!

All My Sons – Act 1 Analysis

In our Literature class we have started reading a dramma play call “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller. After reading the Act 1 we have analysed it. Here is the presentation.

“The Innocent Man” – Lending Library

This year a new method had been introduced for doing the oral presentation of the Lending LIbrary. We have to record ourselves and talk about the book that we have chosen.

The book that I had chosen is “The Innocent Man” byy John Grisham. Here is the video that I had made.
