“Impulse” Booktube

In our Language class we were assigned to do a new booktube about the Lending Library that we choose. Here is my booktube about the book “Impulse” written by Catherine Caulter. Hope you enjoy it!

Gas Exchange

In our class of Biology we have been studying the gas exchange. After learning some its characteristics, we have made a chart. Here it is.

Cellular respiration

In our biology class we have studied the “Cellular Respiration” and its functions. Here is an activity that our teacher told us to make in pairs. I work wit Juan Lutowicz.

 1 – State the uses of energy in our body.

  • It contracts the muscles, so we can move our parts of the body;
  • It is used in reactions that produce different molecules;
  • It is used to build up larger molecules from smaller ones;
  • It is used to transmit nerves impulses.

2 – Construct a mind map about respiration. You may do it on a sheet of paper or use any of the tools available such as bubble.us

You should include:

a- Definitions;

b- Types: Aerobic and anaerobic (in muscles and yeast);

c- Equation in words;

d- Amount of energy released

3 – Explain the meaning of “oxygen debt”

Anaerobic respiration produces an “Oxygen debt”. This is the amount of oxygen needed to oxidise lactic acid to carbon dioxide and water. The existence of an oxygen debt explains why we continue to breathe deeply and quickly for a while after exercise.

 4- Search in the internet a short video, which explains why the breathing rate does not return to normal immediately after vigorous exercise stops.

Online Test: The Gothic Novel

In our Language class we habe seen “The Gothic Novel” as a genre. After learning all the vocabulary and the main characteristics of this genre our teacher prepare to us an Online Test. Here is mine.

TASK 1: Publish an infographic including the main characteristics of the Gothic Novel as a genre. Name at least two relevant pieces of work and their writers.

The Gothic Novel

TASK 2: Imagine you had to interview one of the  authors of these stories: The Cask of Amontillado, The Monkey’s Paw and The Yellow Wall Paper. Choose one. Find out about him/her and write the interview. What would you ask them? What would they answer? Publish your interview. (10-14 exchanges)

I had chosen W.W jacobs, the writer of “The Monkey’s Paw”.

I: Hi! Hello! Thank you for being here.

J: My pleasure.

I: Tell me, where were you born?

J: I was born in London, England.

I: Right, you are a great writer William. What generally inspires you?

J: Well, lots of things. Human relations, wars, money, regrets, wish, etc.

I: Now, talking about the story “The Monkey’s Paw”, what made you decide to change your common genre, which is comedy?

J: Well, I had got a bit bored of comedy of comedy and I thought that turning to the horror genre was a nice change for the best, so I got involved in what it took to write a proper horror story and I finally came up with my collection of ghost stories “The Lady of the Barge”.

I: That’s indeed a scary collection! There are some horror elements to discuss. Let’s get started by “The Monkey’s Paw” and its origins, India. Why India?

J: Because India is the country of the mystical, the country of the superstition, of the hundred gods and of the unexplored. So making the paw from India seemed like the perfect origin to me.

I: Greta! What about its function? That is, changing someone’s fate. Do you believe in fate?

J: Well, that’s a difficult question! I would say I don’t, but having an element which would influence our destiny would be interesting. Don’t you think so?

I: Yeah, but frightening too!

J: Of course!

I: And what about the White’s just wishing money?

J: Money runs this world, so I thought it was the perfect wish, although they had to pay a high price for that.

I: What about you? Are you someone worried about money?

J: Not really, I have refused money on several occasions. Thought I remained in my deck position because it was economically stable.

I: Why?

J: Because despite money is not everything to me, it is necessary.

I: If you could, would you like to have an element change your fate?

J: If I had to pay such a high price as my son’s life, I wouldn’t!

I: Have you ever been to India?

J: No, I haven’t. But I’ve heard enough stories to get inspiration from.

I: That’s a lot of your time William!

J: Thank you!

Pathogens

In our class of Biology we have seen the topic “Pathogens”. Then our teacher told us to do a presentation for adults explaining this topic. Here is the presentation. I worked with Tomas Borda, Juan Lutowicz, Joaco Venini and Bauti Olaizola.

TP Fisicoquímica – “Sustancias Polares”

En nuestra clase de Fisicoquímica estuvimos viendo el tema: “Sustancias polares y no polares”. Este es un experimento que tuvimos que hacer para explicar el tema visto en clase. Trabajé con Tomas Borda.

The Monkey’s Paw – Analysis

In our Language class we have started reading Gothic Stories. Our first story was “The Monkey’s Paw” written by William Wymark Jacobs. After reading the story we had analysed it. Here is the presentation.

“Continuum” and “A Different History”

In our Literature class we have read two poems that are “Continuum” by Allen Curnow and “A Different History” by Sujata Bhatt. This are to presentations showing the analysis of the poems.

“The Rain Horse” – Important Quotations

In our Literature class we had read the story called “The Rain Horse” written by Ted Hughes. After analysing and discussing it our teacher told us to search some quotations about the events of the story. This is the task. I work with Juan Lutowicz.

  1. “Holding his collar close and tucking his chin down into it”,  “(…)  A wave of anger went over him: (…) anger against the land that made him feel so outcast.”
  2. “A thin, black horse was running across the ploughland towards the hill, its head down, neck stretched out. It seemed to be running on its toes like a cat, like a dog up to no good.”
  3. “In blinding rain he lunged through the barricade of brambles at the wood’s edge.”
  4. “At the wood top, with the silvered grey light coming in behind it, the black horse was standing under the oaks, its head high and alert, its ears pricked, watching him.”
  5. “Like lightning his legs bounded him upright and about face. The horse was almost on top of him, its head stretching forward, ears flattened and his lips lifted back from the long yellow teeth.”
  6. “Out in the middle of the first field, tall as a statue, and a ghostly silver in the under-cloud light, stood the horse, watching the wood.”
  7. “Its whinnying snort and the spattering whack of hooves seemed to be actually inside his head.”
  8. “He picked two stones about the size of goose eggs.”
  9. “He let out a tearing roar and threw the stone in his right hand. The result was instantaneous.”
  10. “His aim seemed to be under superior guidance. The stone struck and rebounded straight up into the air, spinning fiercely, as the horse swirled away and went careering down towa-rds the far bottom comer of the field…”
  11. “‘You stay there!’ he shouted. ‘Keep your distance and you’ll not get hurt'”. In this part of the story the human seem to be superior to the horse by ordering him to stay in the place he was.
  12. “Piece by piece he began to take off his clothes, wringing the grey water out of them, but soon he stopped that and just sat staring at the ground, as if some important part had been cut out of his brain.”
